ABOUT
Artist Statement
I am a multi disciplinary artist working in sculpture, drawing, painting, photography and printmaking. My work explores the human figure and animal form in their surroundings. In addition, I focus on landscapes and scenery of places that I have travelled to in order to explore their beauty and capture those moments in time that should be enjoyed long after they are gone.
I work on location in order to be spontaneous in capturing my impression of the scenery and the gestures of my subjects. I also enjoy working from photographs as it allows me the opportunity to slow down the process in order to explore colour, light and volume that inevitably impact the end result.
Through my paintings, I aim to provide viewers with a sense that many individuals have had challenges in their lives. In my recent work, I have focused on capturing the aged and in particular those whose faces reflect the hardships of life. My latest 'smoking series' comprised of people that appear to be time worn and down trodden. The images provide an introduction to my subject's life story through their facial features however I leave it up to the audience to complete the narrative.
